The Iconic Landscape

You can’t look at this photograph of Cathedral Rock in Sedona, AZ without thinking of half the Westerns you have ever seen. It’s extraordinary how Hollywood has painted our perception of the Western landscape (not to mention every other detail of American culture). Does this mean that Neal Gabler’s thesis, Life the Movie, is without a doubt, correct? Gabler suggests that our politics, our education, our newspapers, our media are transformed by the narrative and experience of film.

As we travel through Sedona, with its iconic landscape, its crystals, jewelery, new age culture, and Southwest-style everything, it becomes clear that reality has been restaged in this epic setting.
