On being an artist on the world stage

As reported by the Pink Line project, here in Washington, DC there was yet another discussion on why there is no American cultural ministry. Ten years ago I proposed one to President Bush, and when they ignored me, I just went ahead and created it myself, and became its first Secretary. The real problem is that artists need to have voice on the world stage, because we really can change the world, wherever and whenever we decide to change it. So rather than just talking about it, I say, you just have to make it happen, and that is how the artist’s voice is heard.
