This morning the NY Times article (I Sing the Gadget Electronic) about Cory Arcangel’s recent show at the Whitney Museum of American Art appeared as a refreshing dose of sarcastic cynicism.
In Arcangel’s show at the Whitney, aptly entitled Pro Tools, the ever mercurial artist has staged our technological fetish of competitive optimism by re-enacting, over and over and over, a computer bowling game that yields nothing more than an endless repetition of gutter balls.
As Arcangel blithely surmises, the game is over and you can’t win.
